Title: The Green Die. (A dice recorded on the headstone of Douglas Adams in Highgate Cemetery, London). Medium: Acrylic on aluminium. Dimensions in cm: 70.8 x 100 Price on collection from studio: £320.00 Year made: 2009. About the work: This work is one of the Silent Voices series which documents tokens left at shrines or the final resting place of artists whose work has been powerful enough to have enlightened or affected in some way the provider. The dice or “die” in the work was place on the headstone of Douglas Adams author of the Hitchhikers guide to the Galaxy. They document the personal feelings (silent voices) of the author; they are placed into the world for an audience with humanity. In the context of the graveyard location confronted with their own mortality viewers hear their own silent voices as they contemplate the complex set of relationships between our adulation of greatness, celebrity, and feelings of longing, hope and despair. These intense feelings when articulated are diminished; the simple “die” enables us to better hear the ‘silent voices’ within. The work is hung on a hidden bracket which is supplied and so no frame is required. Packaging and delivery charges (additional to purchase price) :
